Question Details

Sometimes I just don’t notice the time, but other times, the students often seem to be enjoying an activity and I don’t want them to break off, or I find it hard to judge when to stop them.

Answer

Knowing when to stop is something that becomes easier with experience. You will soon have an instict for when the learning is done and it’s time to move on. I guess the main question to ask is ‘are the students still learning?’ If all the learning is done and it feels more like ‘killing time’ it’s time to move on, even if they seem to be enjoying themselves. However, if the students are enjoying themselves because they are enthralled with what they are learning and inpsired to keep going, continue! It can be a fine line, but it becomes easier to judge. If you feel it is a real problem for you, use a timer. Set a time you would expect the task to take and set a digital timer. When the timer goes off you can still decide whether you want to give a few more mins or not. A timer is a great tool to use to keep you and the students to track!
